Congress wins Karnataka Lok Sabha bypoll

The Congress on Wednesday, 21 March 2012, won the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka from the scandal-hit ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a setback to the Chief Minister of Karnataka-DV Sadananda Gowda, the Congress has won the bypoll with its nominee K Jayaprakash Hegde defeating the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's V Sunil Kumar.

The bypoll was caused by BJP's DV Sadananda Gowda, who vacated the seat after becoming Chief Minister in August 2011.
