RBI Deputy Governor details on tech-savvy financial system
22-Oct-2026, 02:00
Swaminathan J, Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), affirmed that the Indian financial system is transitioning to its next stage from a foundation of resilience, characterized by enhanced asset quality and robust capital levels. The imperative is to maintain these attributes as the system expands, adopts more sophisticated technologies, and exhibits greater interconnectedness. He elaborated that, as financial institutions seek expansion and operational efficiencies, regulatory frameworks must adapt commensurately. Trust is to be regarded as a critical asset demanding sustained investment. He also underscored that resilience must be progressively defined not solely by capital buffers, but also by the agility with which an institution can identify, respond to, and recuperate from challenges.
