Market Commentary - Mid-Session
The key equity barometers traded with slight losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23890-23789. Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare Index shares gained, while Nifty Media and Nifty IT shares declined.
At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest losses of 351.80 points or 0.46% to 76,163.63. The Nifty 50 index inched down 98.55 points or 0.41% to 23,799.15.
The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved lower by 0.37% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest gains of 0.17%.
The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2310 shares rose and 2467 shares fell. A total of 260 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Pharma index posted modest gains of 0.65% to 26650. The index has eased by 0.45% in last one month and soared 20.82% over last one year. Wockhardt, edging up 4.81%, led the gainers followed by Piramal Pharma, inching higher 3.31% and Gland Pharma, adding 2.64%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Healthcare Index index moved higher by 0.43% to 16479. The index has slipped by 2.02% in last one month and climbed 13.23% over last one year. Piramal Pharma, gaining 3.31%, led the gainers followed by Divi's Lab., up 2.01% and Glenmark Pharma., inching higher 1.69%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 12 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Media index shed 2.75%. The index has posted modest losses of 2.19% in last one month and edged lower by 2.83% over last one year. PVR Inox, falling 7.68%, led the losers followed by Zee Entertainmen, down 4.37% and Sun TV Network, losing 2.68%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 7 are reporting loss today.
Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 12 are in red today. Nifty Pharma index is down 0.45% in last one month and has registered sharp gains of 20.82% over last year. Nifty Media index has recorded steep losses of 2.19% in last one month and is slightly lower by 2.83% over last one year.
From NIFTY50 index, Vodafone Idea, IFCI AND JP Power Ven. are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 2887.3 lakh shares, 9878.8 lakh shares and 883.0 lakh shares respectively.
Asian markets traded slightly higher on Monday. China’s Shanghai composite is modestly lower by 0.23%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is lower by 0.95%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is substantially higher by 1.91%.
NIFTY50 Sep-26 futures are in discount of 132.85 points today.
